Scholarships and Donations

Looking for a chance to give back to Mosaic?

Please consider making a donation to Mosaic Outdoor Clubs of America (MOCA). Your contribution can be used to help people attend this event and for leadership development for Mosaic clubs. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so as part of your registration. If you do not plan to attend the event, and still would like to make a donation, please email scholarship@mosaicoutdoor.org

Event Scholarships

This year, Mosaic wants to help as many people as possible experience the beauty of the great outdoors, learn and connect with other Jewish outdoor enthusiasts at our annual International Event. Your support can help to:

  • Build the growing community of Jewish outdoor enthusiasts across North America

  • Foster a greater appreciation of nature and the great outdoors

  • Build outdoor knowledge and skills and an ethic of environmental consciousness and conservation

Scholarships for Financial Hardship

If you have a need for financial assistance to be able to attend the Jewish Outdoor Escape and would like to apply for a Mosaic Scholarship, please download the application, complete it, scan and email it back to scholarship@mosaicoutdoor.org.  The deadline for submission is July 5th.  We have a limited amount of funds so applying for a scholarship does not guarantee that you will be offered one.

How are Scholarships Awarded?
Scholarships are awarded based on need – please see below. Scholarships are NOT awarded on first come, first serve basis.

As such, the committee needs to have ALL the applications in front of them to review and discuss before making its decisions.

When should I register for the event if I apply for a Scholarship?
You have two choices:

  1. You can register now to be sure you get into the activities you want to. Please note you will be considered fully registered and all cancellation policies apply if you do not get a scholarship.  The Scholarship applies retroactively to the rates during the time frame you apply. This means, should you be awarded a Scholarship, money awarded will be refunded to you.  Do not assume you will be awarded the scholarship.

  2. You can hold off, waiting a decision before you register; of course, then you may be closed out of some of the activities you want.

Eligibility: In order to be eligible for a scholarship, the application must meet the following requirements:

  1. The applicant must be eligible to be a member of the nearest local Mosaic club. Individuals whose membership eligibility is suspended or revoked as of the date of the application or event are not eligible to receive a scholarship.

  2. The applicant must demonstrate a financial hardship. While the applicant is not expected to provide financial records as part of the application, he or she should explain the basis of the request and the financial need sufficiently to allow the committee to evaluate the application alongside other applications received.

  3. Scholarship applicants and their immediate family members may not serve on the scholarship committee for the event for which the application was submitted.

Recipient Requirements: As a condition of receiving a scholarship, recipients are expected to agree to the following conditions:

  1. Recipients may not purchase premium or upgraded housing (including single or double rooms) except for the following circumstances (For either of the below exceptions, the candidate shall be limited to the least expensive upgrade available to meet the need).

  2. Couples may purchase upgrades to a couple's room.

  3. Individuals with disabilities which make the use of an upgraded room medically necessary will be eligible to upgrade to a room appropriate to meet the need. Such persons should contact the event committee as early as possible so that a suitable room may be reserved.

  4. As Mosaic and its events are run by volunteers, recipients will be expected to do at least one of the following in a significant capacity:

    1. Volunteer at the event.

    2. Volunteer with the event committee prior to the event.

    3. Have a history of volunteering with MOCA or his or her local Mosaic club.

Leadership Development

Our members are always asking about leadership development. Your donation could help us provide support for local club leaders and make our Mosaic clubs stronger. This process can take many routes, from supporting attendance at the International Event, to local workshops, to Mosaic-wide retreats. Large-amount donors' wishes will be honored.

If you are interested in finding out more or making a contribution of any amount please contact:scholarship@mosaicoutdoor.org

Thank you!
